News Bits: 8/23/11 Edition

Something’s up when media outlets are reporting on UEE’s killer legs that were showcased in a recent episode of Birdie Buddy. Guys – we get it. She’s got the legs in town. We know you have nothing better to do but ogle at her legs. Stop writing about it.

*does some more squats*

Oh and Birdie Buddy got one of its highest ratings so far – 1.23% on AGB. Which is high by the way for a cable channel.

Wonder Girls have pretty much disappeared from my mind; if they came out with a new single, I don’t think I was very interested in it. Their activities in the US have certainly made them stray far from the K-pop scene in Korea, and yet their photo spread in Teen Vogue labels them as “queen bees” of K-pop. It’s all marketing, I tell ya.

I think it’s the make-up, but it’s sad to see how much these girls have aged – they look far older than I think they should be.

Sandara Park landed in L.A. to shoot a new music video with Tae Yang for his upcoming solo album. The music video is for his first single “I Need a Girl” (no – not desperate at all, dude). Sandara appeared before in his music video for “Wedding Dress.” The two of them must be really good friends… (Edit: it turned out to be a rumor that Sandara appeared in “Wedding Dress”)

A new girl group is debuting – and this time it’s more diverse than I’ve ever seen any other group. They’re called i-Me, and it is composed of three Chinese girls from the Super Girls competition, one German-Thai girl from Academy Fantasia (Thai Idol), and a Korean girl. The “i” represents “international” and “idol,” while “Me” merely means “myself”. The group came about out of a collaboration between three companies in China, Korea, and Thailand. In the above photo it goes: leader Li Yuan Xi, German-Thai member Na Lin, Yi Yi Zi, Korean member Xuan Jing (guess she got a Chinese version of her name), and youngest member Liu Mei Han (who can speak Chinese, Japanese and English).

I’m guessing that they’re debuting primarily as a Chinese group, since their first single is in Chinese. But they’re probably going to sing in plenty of other languages, and maybe Na Lin will have a Thai single or something. She’s probably going to be the female Nichkhun.

Check out their first single after the jump:

Yamapi and Kitagawa Keiko were spotted holding hands on a date in public. That wouldn’t be such a problem – except their both top idol stars and Yamapi is even part of the strict Johnny’s Entertainment. Then again, he’s such a senior (despite his young age at 24) that I’m sure he surpasses those rules now. (Maybe?) They both starred together in the J-drama Buzzer Beat.

Lee Seung Gi and Kim Yuna are bringing a smile to my face with their peppy World Cup song “Smile Boy.” This is Kim Yuna’s second collaboration in honor of the hugest soccer/football event of 2010 (the first being with Big Bang), and the following is their CF.

Dream Concert 2010

One of the biggest K-pop events ever just finished, with 40,000 in the audience. The event went off smoothly – thanks to the experienced Kim Heechul, who smoothed over all the awkward and in-between moments with his jokes and getting the other two newbie hosts Taecyeon and Shin Se Kyung get into the groove of hosting. This year there were more waiting-periods between performances, and singers wouldn’t come onstage on time after they were announced. So instead of having 40,000 grumpy viewers, we had 40,000 appeased viewers.

But less chatter and on to the photos!

Upcoming drama Baker King Kim Tak Goo has confirmed this casting tidbit: Park Shin Hye will NOT be participating in the drama. (It makes sense since she’s still filming the film “Cyrano Agency” and the 30-episode drama starts on June 10 after Cinderella’s Sister.) Instead, Eugene will be stepping in. Her character is called Shin Yoo Kyung, and she will play Yoon Si Yoon‘s first love (despite the age gap) who betrayed him for her own gains – by marrying his brother. Her character is also quite villainous.

Here’s a look at how her character will be in the drama:

My Girlfriend is a Gumiho has finally cast the “Girlfriend”. Aaaaaaaaand…. it’s Shin Se Kyung. Who’s surprised? Really?

I can’t say I’m disappointed since I expected it. But I wished it were different too. Then again – I don’t have any other suggestions off the top of my head. Was it too much to ask for Park Shin Hye?? Or Moon Chae Won??
