News Bits: 7/4/11 Edition

Happy July 4th! Hope you’re all having fun with barbecues or watching the fireworks!

Yoon Eun Hye went down to Taiwan for a photo shoot – looks like to promote a new cellphone – and tweeted some photos of her fellow model Ethan Ruan! The two of them brought out the charms with their V-signs and making faces.

Man, they just look so good together…

Tang Wei and Hyun Bin. Let's forget the laughing lady in the middle.

Oh. My. God. It’s spring! SPRING!

That means romance is in the air! And also allergies.

Hyun Bin was granted a few days leave before he officially starts his marine-military duty. I have never heard of that/knew that they could do that. Anyways – it just so happened his leave coincided with Tang Wei’s visit to Korea. Tang Wei was his costar in the film Late Autumn,” and she had arrived as a guest for the final screening of the film in Seoul. Rumors started that Hyun Bin and Tang Wei were secretly dating, and that she visited to coincide with his leave. However, both sides’ managements have denied the matter. Apparently, Tang Wei’s visit was a surprise and planned last minute. Hyun Bin only had dinner with friends, including Jang Dong Gun, and planned to spend the rest of his break with family.

Good – because honestly, Hyun Bin-oppa, you need to stop hooking up with co-stars. Unless it’s Ha Ji Won – then I approve.

News Bits: 3/13/11 Edition

The weekend means that I get to catch up on my Taiwanese dramas! And that means, more episodes of My Queen! And that means, more Ethan Ruan! Episode 4 had me squeeing at how awesome he can be. I really enjoy how there will always be misunderstandings, but the feelings are always straightforward; as in, there doesn’t seem to be a confusion as to who they really like romantically. That’s my kind of TW-drama.

The drama also has me getting annoyed at Cheryl Yang’s Shan Wu Shuang; though her heart is in the right place, she never lets anyone see that good heart. Therefore she comes off as abrasive, and therefore annoying as a character.

But nevertheless! The marathon continues! Although it sucks that since we must all spring forward, I’ll lose an hour of sleep. -__-”

My Queen: First Impressions

OHMYGAWD! I think I found my Taiwanese drama fix! I know it’s SOOOOOOO belated, and people left and right have been telling me to watch this, but I’ve finally tuned in to My Queen. Ethan Ruan, I LOVE YOU! And it also stars Cheryl Yang, whom I saw playing the uber-meanie in the Chinese version of All About Eve. She’s a bit more lovable here, thankfully. It also helps that her character is referred to as a “Female Voldemort.” Mwahaha.

But again, why must the previews for the next episodes reveal so much!?

Fated To Love You Spin-Off In The Works

Taiwanese dramas have been going down in popularity. Not that I know for sure, but I can certainly say that my interest in them has decreased ever since I watched a few episodes of some series and couldn’t bother to continue. So…they’ve gone down in popularity for me.

However, an article noted that Taiwanese dramas in general get ratings in the low-single digits, like 2′s and 4′s. The last drama to make Taiwanese drama history was Fated to Love You, getting ratings in the mid-teens. So to remake that little television magic, a spin-off/sequel was discussed to bring back together the cast and crew of Fated. Unfortunately, due to schedule conflicts, Ethan Ruan and Chen Qiao En won’t be coming back.

Instead, they’ll be replaced with Rainie Yang and Joseph Chang.

It has been announced that DBSK will participate on the ATHENA OST. Interesting – I thought they broke up and had too many issues to get back together and make a song. It is said that the group will reunite in January, so I’m clearly wrong. Their song will be a fast, upbeat insert song, which I’m looking forward too since I think ATHENA has enough ballads. Like the latest one from Brown Eyed Soul – the MV for “Put It Back” is the video above.

Golden Horse Awards 2010

Taiwanese film When Love Comes won Best Film at the Golden Horse awards. Why is it so significant? Because the Golden Horse Film Awards is the Chinese-version of the Oscars, and when I say “Chinese,” I mean mainland China.

News Bits: 9/6/10 Edition

Oof – I take a weekend off to chillax and shop – which meant no reading of K-pop news – and so many things happen!!!!!!!!

Jung Il Woo held his birthday fan meeting over the weekend, and his surprise guests were Kim Bum and Lee Min Ho! The two of them are best friends with Jung, and Kim Bum even starred alongside Jung in Unstoppable High Kick. They celebrated Jung’s 23rd birthday with him and his fans, and Jung performed for his fans on the piano and also singing the song “Candy in My Ear” by Baek Ji Young.

Ariel Lin has been absent in the acting world for about two years – sparking anger from fans who want to see her act, not sing. (She’s been preparing for her second album instead. I don’t know if fans really are that fervent, or if the news source is exaggerating..) So now she’s going to star in two dramas – one is Extravagant Challenge, which will resume filming after casting issues and a one-year break. The lead was originally Jerry Yan but when the company told them they would not continue with producing the drama, along with rumors that Wu Zun was going to replace him, Yan quit the drama. Now, it’s back on and the leads are none other than Super Junior’s Siwon and Donghae. Filming will begin in August.

On top of that, her second drama will be a Taiwanese remake of Coffee Prince – and Lin will take over Yoon Eun Hye’s role. EHHHH!? <– that was my reaction.

News Bits: 3/8/10 Edition

I am clearly procrastinating on doing work, so I checked out some entertainment news. Here are some of the more interesting bits I found:

Ethan Ruan was discovered going to a hotel with an unknown female. He explained that the girl was a friend’s girlfriend. Ruan’s girlfriend Tiffany Xu still maintains her trust in him that nothing happened. (Ruan’s baby face is too irresistible, that’s all.)

The drama with 2PM doesn’t end. Taecyeon’s minihompy featured a new message: “This is a new start. Shall we do it together?” But fans are still angry. (Women may forgive, but they’ll never forget.)

Jang Dong Gun is getting married! His lucky girl is Ko So Young, and their wedding will take place in early May.

Moon Geun Young is sick with Hepatitis A, but the production of Cinderella’s Sister continues as their premiere date looms ever closer. (The drama premieres on the same day as Personal Taste – March 31st. You know what I’m watching!)

Supposedly, SNSD is going to come out with a new image known as “Black Soshi.” Fans got to see a glimpse at the end of the MV for “Oh!” and now they can’t wait to see the sexy makeover these cutesy girls are going to have. (Who wants to bet this new image will be timed with ATHENA?)

And now – time to watch Stars Falling From the Sky episode 17!
