Ariel Lin revealed to the press that she’s dating someone. Now that’s something you don’t admit everyday. She won’t reveal his identity but only says that he is a “big help to her acting and singing career.” Money on the manager? Anyone?

She was actually attending a press conference for Taiwan Organ Registry and Sharing Center, of which she is an ambassador.

Rain and Lee Na Young‘s new drama Runaway is less melodramatic than I thought. It’s getting described as a romantic comedy about “two detectives who try to fool each other and get fooled.” The drama will also film on location in the Philippines, Shanghai, and various cities in Japan. Rain’s character is a detective who takes on a case that has never been solved.

Choi Siwon has been added to the cast of ATHENA! His character is a newbie spy at NTS who starts out as a data analyst. He forms a rapport with Jung Woo Sung‘s cool spy and aspires to be just like him. Too cute – and I’d love to see Choi bumbling around trying to impress the never-ruffled Jung in the beginning. Although – we’re getting more characters on the NTS side. I want to know more about Cha Seung Won‘s team.

But he’s also supposed to act in a Taiwanese drama (alongside Donghae) called Extravagant Challenge. That drama, produced by GTV, is also facing it’s own set of challenges. There are rumors that Angela Zhang is becoming a strong contender for the lead role and will replace GTV star Ariel Lin. Lin has starred in the super popular dramas It Started With a Kiss and won a Golden Bell Best Actress Award. But since she’s also supposed to star in Extravagant Challenge and in Coffee Prince Shop Taipei Stop, there are people within the company who are saying that GTV is becoming too full of Ariel Lin. On top of that, the company stated that they want to make sure Siwon and Donghae’s schedules are clear for Extravagant Challenge; once they are set, then they will pick the actress (Lin or Zhang) who can fit in that schedule. Kinda seems like a slap in the face for the actresses of the home country – they’re no longer the priority.

In case you haven’t had enough of the NBA Playoffs recently – Yao Ming, Magic Johnson, and Kobe Bryant are said to star in a Chinese basketball movie called “Shen Qi,” or “Amazing.” Yao and Johnson are supposedly set to star, but Bryant is still a maybe. The film will focus mainly on a master and apprentice in this sports film, the master being Yao and the apprentice being mainland actor Huang Xiaoming. Hm. Last basketball movie I ever saw was the Michael Jordan – Looney Toons “Space Jam” – and that was fun!

T-ARA is making a splash on the acting scene – first Jiyeon in god of Study, then Eun Jung in Coffee House, and now Hyo Min in My Girlfriend is a Gumiho. She plays the girl who has a one-sided crush on Lee Seung Gi, even though he’s stuck with Shin Mina’s gumiho. Hyo Min supposedly appeared as Eun Jung’s makeover stylist in Coffee House episode 8, but since she didn’t appear, maybe it’s set for episode 9? Either that, or she was a behind-the-scenes stylist.

Itazura na Kiss Gets the Korean Treatment

Group 8 – the production company that brought us Goong and Boys Over Flowers – will be producing a new manga-based television series - Itazura na Kiss. It is also known as It Started with a Kiss in Taiwan, which starred Ariel Lin and Joe Cheng. The story follows a young high school girl who falls in love with her senior in high school and admits her love to him. He is too cool for her though, and rejects her. So fate intervenes and causes an earthquake that destroys her house, forcing her and her family to live with him.

If you’ve seen the Taiwanese series, or heard about it, then you know what happens. I never watched it out of refusal to see something that everyone and their dog has already seen. (I’m weird like that, but the same philosophy applies to Boys Over Flowers and High School Musical.) Japan already has its anime version of the manga, which is unfinished due to the author’s death but continues to be published with her husband’s permission.

The drama will appear in the fall and is finishing up casting. Shooting will begin in July. So – WHO ARE THE LEADS!?!?!?!?!?

News Bits: 5/20/10 Edition

Ariel Lin has been absent in the acting world for about two years – sparking anger from fans who want to see her act, not sing. (She’s been preparing for her second album instead. I don’t know if fans really are that fervent, or if the news source is exaggerating..) So now she’s going to star in two dramas – one is Extravagant Challenge, which will resume filming after casting issues and a one-year break. The lead was originally Jerry Yan but when the company told them they would not continue with producing the drama, along with rumors that Wu Zun was going to replace him, Yan quit the drama. Now, it’s back on and the leads are none other than Super Junior’s Siwon and Donghae. Filming will begin in August.

On top of that, her second drama will be a Taiwanese remake of Coffee Prince – and Lin will take over Yoon Eun Hye’s role. EHHHH!? <– that was my reaction.
