News Bits: 2/28/11 Edition

It’s the end of February!

And great Scott! Chris Columbus (the director of Harry Potter and Home Alone, not the explorer) announced that he will bought the rights to Cha Tae Hyun’s comedy film “Hello Ghost.” The movie just came out last year, and now it’s going to be remade for American audiences. Great. Just great. Wow. I’m sooo frickin’ happy.

Relive the Gumiho magic here! Hoi-hoi!

As if Taecyeon weren’t enough, Woo Young from 2PM and miss A’s Suzy will be joining the cast of Dream High as an overseas dancer and an aspiring singer respectively. Suzy is also the “prettiest girl” at school. Sigh* I don’t know how I feel about all these boy/girl idols going on to a drama. Just because they sing doesn’t mean they’re talented enough to act – especially since I feel that most girl/boy groups are “manufactured” nowadays, if you know what I mean. But miss A seems to be quite the hot band nowadays – I keep hearing about them.

Not to be outdoneU-Know Yunho is cast as Oh Yoon Jae, a special forces soldier for the National Maritime Police Academy in Poseidon, costarring Eric Mun. Tryin’ to prove he’s got more acting skills after his sad flop Heading to the Ground.

It’s the end of July!

Prosecutor Princess also released it’s Director’s Cut DVD! It’s a pretty package with plenty of goodies (all thanks to fervent fans who insisted on getting a few more hours with their precious Kim So Yeon and Park Shi Hoo). I didn’t get one, as I had blown all my money on a You’re Beautiful DVD set, but boy am I jealous… I would love some more Park Shi Hoo. The extras include behind the scenes, NG’s, cast and crew interviews, and other stuff – but it’s not subtitled. Only the drama is subtitled. (Time to brush up your Korean!) Unlike You’re Beautiful, it seems that you can still order this special edition DVD (whereas the former had to be ordered by a certain time period).

*spazz*

ATHENA gets a broadcast date, and a broadcaster. It will premiere on SBS in November, and my goodness I can’t wait. Not only can I not wait for fall because summer’s a killer, but now I REALLY can’t wait for fall. Is my excitement just too much? :P

Although one thing I don’t like about the poster is the colored background. It makes the drama seem a lot more campy than…it should be (?). Then again, you never know with cheesy posters – some can look so ridiculously bad that it may be good. cough*You’re Beautiful*cough. ah*Birdie Buddy*choo

News Bits: 6/14/10 Edition

Jang Young Nam has made a name for herself playing side characters in several dramas, including Dalja’s Spring, Hero, Women of the Sun, and La Dolce Vita. (She is absolutely spiteful and annoying in Dalja’s Spring when she first appeared too.) But now she’s got herself a more prominent role in I Am Legend. She will play a divorce lawyer and new girlfriend of Kim Jung Eun‘s ex-husband. I can totally see her being as snooty as this husband’s family supposedly is.

(Side note: Every time I read “I Am Legend” I always have a split second’s thought of the Will Smith movie that came out a few years ago. Heh.)

A new girl group is debuting – and this time it’s more diverse than I’ve ever seen any other group. They’re called i-Me, and it is composed of three Chinese girls from the Super Girls competition, one German-Thai girl from Academy Fantasia (Thai Idol), and a Korean girl. The “i” represents “international” and “idol,” while “Me” merely means “myself”. The group came about out of a collaboration between three companies in China, Korea, and Thailand. In the above photo it goes: leader Li Yuan Xi, German-Thai member Na Lin, Yi Yi Zi, Korean member Xuan Jing (guess she got a Chinese version of her name), and youngest member Liu Mei Han (who can speak Chinese, Japanese and English).

I’m guessing that they’re debuting primarily as a Chinese group, since their first single is in Chinese. But they’re probably going to sing in plenty of other languages, and maybe Na Lin will have a Thai single or something. She’s probably going to be the female Nichkhun.

Check out their first single after the jump:

What’s with the members of NEWS? Now it’s rumored that Ryo Nishikido is dating model Lena Fujii (whose father is mixed American and Japanese, and her mother is Japanese – hence her unique look). They were seen eating dinner together, and both agencies claimed that they’re just good friends. But watch – if news comes out that Keiichiro Koyama is dating someone too I’m gonna flip a switch! (Yes – I’m protective over these boys - especially Ryo.)

Kim Kang Woo, who recently starred in Story of a Man and the Cannes darling “Ha Ha Ha”, is getting married next month to Han Mu Young, who just so happens to be the older sister of Han Hye Jin (Jejoongwon). They have been dating for the past seven years. This news only makes me want to hurry up and watch Story of a Man already! Oh the time constraints!!

Dream Concert 2010

One of the biggest K-pop events ever just finished, with 40,000 in the audience. The event went off smoothly – thanks to the experienced Kim Heechul, who smoothed over all the awkward and in-between moments with his jokes and getting the other two newbie hosts Taecyeon and Shin Se Kyung get into the groove of hosting. This year there were more waiting-periods between performances, and singers wouldn’t come onstage on time after they were announced. So instead of having 40,000 grumpy viewers, we had 40,000 appeased viewers.

But less chatter and on to the photos!
