Guess what I’m doing on a Friday night? The TV is tuned in to the Filipino Channel of all things, and after laughing at the ridiculous Filipino dramas while eating dinner, the gossip news came on and it was all about Maria Aragon, the Lady Gaga-cover sensation on Youtube who is younger than Charice Pempengco and probably the next Charice.
I mean, she’s appeared on Ellen Degeneres’ show already. Next stop is for Oprah to lay her hands on the girl and the next thing we know, she’s crediting Oprah for discovering her.
(P.S. I just realized three posts in a row feature videos.)
I had seen Maria Aragon’s video a week ago but didn’t realize how big of a sensation she had become until tonight. She’s been everywhere! Her cover of Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way” led to appearances on the Winnipeg radio (she’s from Canada), the Ellen Degeneres Show, and Good Morning America. She even got tweeted by Gaga herself, and got a personal invitation to join the songstress onstage during her concert in Toronto.
This ten-year old girl honestly doesn’t have to go to school anymore.
Or maybe she should attend William McKinley High on Glee.
You can check out her appearance (and performance) on the Ellen show here. She’s quite sweet – still down to earth and not too dramatic in her personality. (Over dramatic-ness is what pisses me the most about some Filipino celebrities but oh well…). Below are some of her other videos:
“Telephone” – Lady Gaga (Here you can see some of her “onscreen personality” where she really plays with the camera. It was done last year, in May 2010)
“Just the Way You Are” – Bruno Mars (She changed the “Her/She” to “Him/He”. The performance was on the Winnipeg Hot103 radio. What’s cute is that the DJ said he would do everything in his power to get her on the Ellen show – and she did!)
“Listen” – Beyonce (this was THREE YEARS AGO, in 2008 – look at how small she is, and yet she’s got a growing talent. Sound quality ain’t too great but you can see the potential.)
And K-pop is not forgotten: “Wedding Dress” – Taeyang (She doesn’t sing in Korean – but I think she sang the English translation of it.)
